ALTAR SERVERS – The duty of the Altar Server is to assist the priest at Mass.  The altar server performs an important role in maintaining the sacredness and dignity of the Mass through exemplary example in this ministry.  The altar server must know the prayers of the Congregation , make the proper responses, and maintain the proper respect required, and  perform those duties necessary to assist the priest prior, during, and after Mass.

Boys and girls prepare to be altar servers as they enter the fifth grade and are able to serve throughout high school, if they so wish.  Those who wish to serve must be in the parish grade school, private school or our P.R.E.P program.  They go through a period of training before they are commissioned to serve at Mass.

Young altar servers assist at the weekend mass of obligation, as well as at weddings and funerals that take place on the weekend.  They also serve the special liturgical celebrations in the Church throughout the year.

Service to the Altar of the Lord is a privilege for any member of the Church.  It requires a proper disposition and a desire to serve the Lord in a special way.  Altar servers are encouraged to reflect upon their call to serve God’s Church in this service, to grow in personal holiness, and to examine the possibility of serving the Lord in the priesthood or religious life. EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION – The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the parish priests in taking communion to the sick and shut-ins of the parish and administering the Holy Eucharist at liturgies.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are commissioned at the invitation of the Pastor for a three year term.  Requirements include a commitment to undertake the office of distributing the Body and Blood of the Lord at Sunday liturgies and on Holy Days and special liturgies where it is necessary to facilitate the distribution of Holy Communion and partaking in acts of mercy by  Holy Communion to those unable to come to Sunday Mass due to illness or invalidity.

Commissioned ministers are typically called upon each month to fulfill this service of immense importance 2 to 3 times a month.  Usually,  Eucharist  Ministers serve on the altar at a scheduled liturgy 1 to 2 times a month, and visit a parishioner or local nursing home 1 to 2 times per month.

LECTORS Ministers of the Word assist at Liturgical celebrations by assisting in proclaiming God’s Word.

The Ministry of Lectors calls for a person to grow in a warm and loving knowledge of Scripture – the Living Word of God.  Lectors proclaim the Word at parish liturgies on Sundays and Holy Days.  Typically, Lectors serve at 1 to 2 Masses per month.

To become a Lector, a parishioner should request information from the Pastor.  Appointment to the Ministry of the Word requires a commitment to respond to the call from God to proclaim the Word with dignity and reverse.  Reading and verbal skills are critical.

Ushers

Ushers, as greeters are “ambassadors of hospitality” who welcome those who come together to worship. They seat people, take up the collection, assist with the smooth flow of the communion procession and distribute the parish bulletin after Mass. Ushers may also be asked to assist with special liturgies during the year including First Communion and Confirmation. All men and women of the parish are welcome. To join, inquire with one of the ushers at Mass.

Music Ministry

The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.”  – Sacrosanctum Concilium

Music is a beautiful way in which the people of God lift their hearts in prayer set to song.  It is indeed an art, a ministry, and a great way to experience and enrich your own spirituality.  Saint Augustine once said that “singing is praying twice” because it involves all that you are mentally, physically and spiritually.  God has given us the gift of music to minister to people everywhere especially in worship.

If you feel called to serve in music ministry, then consider joining the music program here at St. Robert Parish.  Presently we have cantors, organists, an adult choir, adult and high school contemporary ensembles, and other instrumentalists of all ages.  We certainly encourage all youth with musical and/or singing ability to join the program and use their wonderful God-given gifts.  Many current musical artists started out in their church choirs such as Katy Perry, Jessica Simpson, Ruben Studdard, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry and Jordan Sparks just to name a few.

New members are always welcome regardless of training and experience, but an initial audition is required.  Contact the Director of Music, Kevin Lutz at KevinLutz920@yahoo.com for more information or to arrange a meeting or audition.
