Music Ministry

Welcome to Music Ministry!

The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.”  – Sacrosanctum Concilium

Music is a beautiful way in which the people of God lift their hearts in prayer set to song.  It is indeed an art, a ministry, and a great way to experience and enrich your own spirituality.  Saint Augustine once said that “singing is praying twice” because it involves all that you are mentally, physically and spiritually.  God has given us the gift of music to minister to people everywhere especially in worship.

If you feel called to serve in music ministry, then consider joining the music program here at St. Robert Parish.  Presently we have cantors, organists, an adult choir, adult and high school contemporary ensembles, and instrumentalists of all ages.  We certainly encourage all youth with musical and/or singing ability to join the program and use their wonderful God-given gifts.  Many current musical artists started out in their church choirs such as Katy Perry, Jessica Simpson, Ruben Studdard, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry and Jordan Sparks just to name a few.

New members are always welcome regardless of training and experience, but an initial audition is required.  Contact the Director of Music, Kevin Lutz at KevinLutz920@yahoo.com for more information or to arrange a meeting or audition.

The Music of the New Roman Missal

Throughout 2012, we will be practicing and implementing new music that reflect the changes in the Roman Missal.   Music from “Mass of Christ the Savior” by Dan Schutte was the first new mass setting we learned together as a parish back in November.   Scroll below to listen to a professional recording of the new music.   Every parishioner is encouraged to listen to the music a few times (download it to your iTunes!) so you can fully participate in the revised mass.

3)  The Mystery of Faith (formerly known as the Memorial Acclamation):  These words have changed so that they are proclaimed in the first person (just like in the Latin form).  There are three different proclamations.  We have been using the first one at mass since November.  During Lent, we will sing the third one.

a)  We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you come again.  Click here to listen

b)  When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.  Click here to listen

c)  Save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.  Click here to listen
